We will provide fast and effective treatment, rehabilitation and education to patients suffering from low back, neck and peripheral injuries."
History SPS Clinics Ltd

Southport Physiotherapy Services was established in March 1989. The aims were to provide a specialist centre of high clinical standards for treatment of neuro musculoskeletal dysfunctions via physiotherapy and health related exercise prescription. Since that time the Clinic has shown a flexible commitment to the development and successful implementation of physiotherapy services within the community at GP and Consultant level.

The SPS Clinic helped to pioneer and provide a specialist orthopaedic outpatient physiotherapy service to GP fund holding practices in Southport since the onset of the Triangle Waiting List Initiative in August 1991. During that time every patient referred to SPS under the direct access scheme and subsequent schemes (up until April 2001) was offered an appointment within one week of contacting the clinic. Referrals have also been cordially received by the regions Orthopaedic Consultants.

SPS Tarleton SPS Clinics Ltd

Clinical audit identified that a significant number of patients had been from the communities of West Lancashire. Tarleton therefore was chosen as a venue for a satellite clinic to the main Southport practice so that we might better serve the residents in these areas. In February 1995 Tarleton Physiotherapy Services Clinic was established at 93 Church Rd, Tarleton. Since opening we have been able to apply the SPS philosophy of treatment and service to the suburbs of Preston and have secured contracts with GP practices in Penwortham.

Professional Standards SPS Clinics Ltd

All physiotherapists at SPS are Chartered (MCSP) and State Registered (SRP). They are experienced as senior clinicians familiar with working in the private and primary care setting. We have a proven track record of skills working within primary care and as sole practitioners. We also have affiliations with the Organisation of Chartered Physiotherapists in Private Practice (OCPPP) and the Physiotherapists Pain Society (PPS). Membership to these Societies is exclusive, those qualified at accepted colleges and universities by the medical profession and the State Registration Board (CPSM). No other persons are truly qualified to call them selves Physiotherapists. Always look for clinicians with the qualifications MCSP & SRP.

Caution there are bogus societies that use similar letters after there names, often under the title of sports therapists or remedial masseurs — these are NOT Chartered or State Registered Therapists.

SPS physiotherapists follow professional guidelines in using his or her professional judgement on the most appropriate means of treating a specific condition. Such judgement includes involving other colleagues, either from the SPS team or in PCTs, when a particular condition can be better treated from a physiotherapist with more specialist skills or knowledge. As described later, there is an extensive and varied range of skills within the SPS physiotherapy team that can be accessed via a "cross-referral" system.

A Unique Additional Service SPS Clinics Ltd

At the physiotherapist's discretion, the exercise centre facility at SPS / Riverside Health & Leisure Centre is available as an additional venue for SPS's rehabilitative purposes. This facility remains an integral aspect of the SPS treatment regime. This allows us a unique opportunity to provide an "Exercise on Prescription" service. SPS physiotherapists may prescribe exercise within the gymnasium and pool complex as part of their clinical activity as and when necessary as a mode of treatment or assessment (e.g. Video Analysis of gait, post surgery, motivating or re-socialising a depressed or fearful patient). This service is with close partnership with the graduate Sports / Exercise Physiologist Staff at the Gymnasium.

Currently this exclusive service incurs a nominal £2.00 charge paid directly to Riverside.
