A Realistic Approach
SPS Clinics are realistic about the “true therapeutic effects” of massage. We do not maintain the myths of “ironing out knots” or clearing out lactic acid. There is very little clinical evidence base in its practice.
However, that said we will offer massage as an adjunct to our other treatment modalities. We do believe that massage done well has a real role in the treatment of pre and post exercise activity, helping to relieve pain, swelling, muscle spasm and the resultant restricted movement of soft tissues.
In short: Massage increases blood flow to the muscles being worked bringing oxygen and nutrients for healing tissues and aids relaxation.
Soft tissue massage or sports massage to some is the use of a range of different massage techniques to aid muscle relaxation which can in turn help to decrease pain, reduce swelling and aid relaxation. The combination of these effects can then assist in improving flexibility and joint ranges of motion.
SPS Premier Sports Therapy offer 30 minute and 60 minute massage time slots, however don’t be offended if we feel a massage is not appropriate for you as we may suggest a different therapeutic approach to aid your presenting problem/injury.
If you require a massage please enquire via the contact details at the bottom of the page.
